How to Change the Brightness of PS5 DualSense Controller Light Bar

The PlayStation 5 DualSense controller light bar is far less pronounced than the light bar on the DualShock 4, trading in the entire touchpad lighting up on the DualShock 4 for simple light bars around the edges of the touchpad on the DualSense. However, by default, the light bars on the DualSense are set at the highest level, which may too much for some users. Thankfully, Sony makes it easy to change the brightness level of the light bar. The only caveat is that while you can turn the brightness level of the PS5 DualSense controller light bar down, you can’t turn it off.

Reasons to Change the Brightness of PS5 DualSense Controller Light Bar

1. Battery Conservation

Dimming your PlayStation 5 DualSense controller’s light bar can significantly improve battery life. The energy consumed by the LED lights contributes to overall battery drain. With high brightness, your controller consumes more power, leading to frequent recharging. Lower brightness equates to less energy consumption, thereby preserving the battery. This benefit is particularly handy during prolonged gaming sessions.

2. Comfort

Some gamers may find high brightness uncomfortable, especially in low-light settings. It can strain your eyes or cause discomfort, diminishing the gaming experience. Tailoring the light bar’s brightness to your preference can enhance comfort, enabling you to engage in gaming for longer periods without undue eye fatigue.

3. Immersion

Games often utilize the light bar as an interactive feature, reflecting in-game situations. For example, it might turn red when your character is in danger. Lowering the brightness, however, can make this less distracting, allowing for more focus on the game itself.

3. Aesthetic Preferences

The brightness of the PS5 DualSense controller light bar can also be a matter of personal taste. Some gamers prefer a more subdued light, finding it aesthetically pleasing. Others may enjoy the vibrancy of a brighter light. Adjusting brightness allows you to personalize your controller, aligning it with your unique style.

4. Avoid Screen Glare

In certain conditions, a brightly lit controller can cause glare on your screen. This glare might obscure important game details, impeding your gameplay. Reducing the brightness of your controller light bar can effectively minimize screen glare, ensuring an uninterrupted gaming experience.

5. Reduced Distraction

For some players, a bright PS5 DualSense controller light bar can be a distraction, especially in dark rooms. The glow might draw attention away from the screen, compromising gameplay. By lowering the brightness, you can maintain your focus on the action unfolding on your screen, boosting your performance in the game.
