How to Update JBL Portable Bluetooth Speaker Firmware

Introduction

JBL portable Bluetooth speakers offer a great blend of toughness, quality audio, and portability. To ensure that you keep getting the most out of your speaker you need to make sure your device is running the latest firmware version. Firmware updates are how JBL addresses issues that were discovered after devices are shipped, and also how new features and functionality can be added. Thankfully JBL makes it easy to update your JBL speaker firmware through a mobile app for iPhone, iPad and Android devices.

Steps to Update JBL Portable Bluetooth Speaker Firmware

  1. Download the JBL Portable app from either the Apple App Store or Google Play Store if you don’t have the app already. Again, the only way to update the firmware on your JBL portable Bluetooth speaker is through the app.

  1. Turn on your JBL Bluetooth speaker and then launch the app. Your speaker should be displayed on the main screen, but if it isn’t you’ll also want to make sure your Bluetooth speaker is paired with your iPhone, iPad or Android device.
  2. If an update is available for your JBL portable Bluetooth speaker you’ll see an Update button below the image of your speaker. If you don’t see an Update button, then there is no firmware update available for your speaker. Tap “Update” if you see it. The Firmware Update screen will be displayed, letting you know what software version you’ll be updating to, and what issues will be addressed.

  1. Tap “Upgrade.”

It’s important to note that your speaker may turn itself on and off during this process, and that you shouldn’t manually turn it on or off while the update is underway. When the firmware update is complete an Upgrade Successful screen is shown.

  1. Tap “Let’s Party.” The firmware update is complete and you can continue using your JBL portable Bluetooth speaker.
