Introduction
As part of the overhauled menu interface on the PlayStation 5, Sony introduced the ability for users to block spoilers in screenshots and gameplay clips. When this feature is enabled, users will see a warning for any images or videos where spoilers are identified, and they’ll need to actively click through to see that content. Turning on spoiler warnings on your PS5 can be done with a few quick clicks. Examples of all instructions in the steps can be seen in the YouTube video below.
Steps to Turn on PS5 Spoiler Warnings
- Navigate to your PS5 home screen, and then click “Settings” to open the Settings menu.
- Choose “Saved Data and Game App Settings” in this menu. The associated screen is shown.
- Select “Spoiler Warnings” in the menu on the left side of the screen. Options associated with PS5 spoiler warnings are shown on the right side of the screen.

Reasons to Consider Turning on PS5 Spoiler Warnings
1. Avoid Spoilers
Avoiding spoilers is perhaps the most obvious reason why you should turn on PS5 spoiler warnings. Spoilers can ruin your gaming experience by revealing major plot points and twists ahead of time. By turning on spoiler warnings, you can ensure that you don’t accidentally stumble upon spoilers and ruin the experience for yourself.
For many gamers, the joy of playing a game comes from the sense of discovery and immersion. Spoilers can disrupt this experience by revealing important information before the player is ready to learn it. By turning on spoiler warnings, you can help ensure that you get the full experience and avoid having the surprise and enjoyment of the game ruined.
2. Maintain Immersion
Maintaining immersion is another important reason to turn on PlayStation 5 spoiler warnings. When playing a game, you want to feel like you’re a part of the world and story that’s being told. Spoilers can break that immersion by revealing information that the player wasn’t supposed to know yet.
3. Enjoy the Story as Intended
Many game developers put a lot of effort into crafting a compelling story, with twists and surprises that are meant to be experienced as intended. Spoilers can rob players of that experience and make the story feel less impactful.
4. Respect for Others
If you’re someone who shares a PS5 with other people, turning on spoiler warnings can be a way to show respect for their desire to avoid spoilers. It’s not fair to ruin someone else’s experience just because you don’t mind spoilers.
5. Avoid Influencing Decisions
Some games have branching storylines or decisions that can affect the outcome of the game. If you accidentally come across spoilers about these decisions, it can influence the choices you make and change the outcome of the game in ways that weren’t intended.
