Introduction
With the rollout of the PlayStation 5, Sony is letting users set some high-level game defaults that will be automatically applied when players start a game for the first time. This enables players to start playing a game instantly with their preferred settings without having to spend time adjusting those settings up front. Adjustable defaults include game difficulty, prioritizing quality or performance, turning on subtitles, and more. One caveat is that these changes will only be seen in games where these options are available. Examples of all instructions in the steps can be seen in the YouTube video below.
Steps to Set PS5 Game Defaults
- Click the “Settings” icon on your PS5 home screen, and then click “Saved Data and Game App Settings” in the menu that’s displayed. The associated screen is shown.
- Choose “Game Presets” in the menu on the left side of the screen. Associated options will be shown on the right side of the screen. These are the options you can adjust that will serve as your defaults when you start a new game.
- Choosing “Difficulty” brings up a menu where you can choose a default difficulty ranging from easiest to hardest. Choosing “Performance Mode or Resolution Mode” lets your prioritize game performance or image quality. Choosing either First- or Third-Person View lets you adjust the vertical and horizontal camera movement. And finally, choosing Subtitles and Audio lets you choose whether or not to display subtitles and also what audio language games will operate in. Your settings will be changed automatically. As a reminder, these changes will only be seen in games where these options are available.
