- Scroll down the screen further to the Price History section. This is where you can move your cursor over the chart and see this Steam game’s fluctuation in price over a period of time.
5 Reasons to See a Steam Game’s Price History
1. Finding the Best Deal
Gamers seek the best deals when purchasing games. Steam often offers discounts, but not consistently. Checking the price history allows users to see if a current sale provides genuine value. For instance, a 30% discount might seem appealing until the history reveals previous 50% off sales. Knowing this motivates users to wait for better deals. By tracking historical lows and discount patterns, gamers can strategize their purchase timing, ensuring they get the most bang for their buck. They avoid paying more than necessary. Ultimately, monitoring price trends empowers them to make informed decisions.
2. Evaluating Sale Events
Steam holds several sale events each year, including the Summer and Winter Sales. During these periods, prices often drop significantly. Checking a game’s price history helps gamers gauge whether a discount is specific to the event or part of a regular pattern. For instance, a game consistently discounted during each Winter Sale is predictable, allowing users to anticipate future savings. Users can also determine whether past sale prices recur, enabling them to strategically align their purchases with these events. Understanding sale patterns maximizes their savings and ensures they never miss out on an attractive deal.
3. Monitoring Seasonal and Regional Pricing Trends
Steam adjusts game prices based on regional markets, leading to varying costs. Users who frequently travel or access different regions benefit from analyzing regional pricing trends. By comparing historical data, they identify where and when the game was cheapest. Seasonal pricing also plays a role; summer and holiday sales often bring the best deals. Monitoring these trends lets users decide the optimal time and place to buy. Understanding regional disparities and seasonal patterns helps gamers avoid paying more than necessary, whether they’re at home or abroad.
4. Tracking Games in a Wishlist
Many gamers maintain wishlists for future purchases. Price history tracking allows them to monitor wishlist items over time. By analyzing historical data, they recognize when a game hits its historical low or approaches a desirable price point. For example, if a game normally sells for $50 but dropped to $25 once before, users can wait for similar sales. They receive notifications when wishlisted games go on sale, but checking the history assures them it’s a worthwhile deal. They avoid buying impulsively or at inflated prices, ensuring each purchase is backed by thorough research.
5. Assessing the Developer’s Discount Strategy
Developers often have unique discount strategies. Some apply small, frequent discounts, while others prefer large, sporadic ones. Understanding these patterns provides insight into a developer’s approach. For instance, a developer who regularly offers minor discounts may never deliver significant reductions. Conversely, others might favor deep, rare sales. Users can check a game’s historical pricing to identify these strategies. If a game follows a consistent pattern, they can accurately predict future discounts and time their purchases accordingly. Assessing the developer’s approach ensures gamers only buy when discounts align with their expectations.
