How to Save Video from Facebook Messenger

Facebook Messenger makes it easy to share special moments captured on your mobile device with friends and family. If someone sends you a video through Facebook Messenger that you want to save to your own archives, such as a baby’s first steps or a clip from a reunion, don’t worry, Facebook makes it easy for you to save those videos. In this video I’ll show you how to save videos from Facebook Messenger on iPhone or iPad, an Android device, and finally to your personal computer through the Messenger.com website.

Steps to Save Video from Facebook Messenger on iPhone or iPad

  1. Launch the Facebook Messenger app on your iPhone or iPad, and then navigate to where the video is located in your conversation that you want to save.
  2. Tap anywhere on the edges of the video to open the video in its own player.
  3. Tap the video to display the interface controls, and then tap “More” in the interface controls. A menu is displayed.

The menu will disappear and a Saved message with a check mark on it will be displayed after your video is downloaded. Going forward, you can access your saved video from Facebook Messenger in your device’s camera roll.

Steps to Save Video from Facebook Messenger on Android

  1. Launch the Facebook Messenger app on your Android device, and then navigate to where the video is located in your conversation that you want to save.
  2. Tap anywhere on the edges of the video to open the video in its own player.
  3. Tap the video to display the interface controls. You’ll see a Save Video icon that features a down-pointing arrow going into a line in those controls.
  4. Tap the “Save Video” icon.

A message appears on the screen that says your video is downloading. After the download is complete, a message appears letting you know that your video is saved. Going forward you can access your downloaded video through the Gallery app.

Steps to Save Video from Facebook Messenger on Messenger.com

  1. Open your Web browser, navigate to Messenger.com, and then sign in to your account if prompted. You’ll land on your Messenger home screen.
  2. Click the conversation that contains the video you want to save to your computer on the left side of the screen, and then navigate to that video in the conversation dialog that appears in the center of the screen.
  3. Click anywhere on the video. The Facebook Messenger video player will launch.
  4. Hold your cursor over the video player to display the interface controls, and then click the “Download” button that appears in those controls. A Save As dialog box is displayed.

  1. Choose the location where you want to save your video, and then click “Save.” The video will be saved as an MP4 file to that location.
