Introduction
The Kindle Fire is a great budget tablet that still offers a good experience and gives you access to popular services. If you’re having problems with your device and nothing else is working to fix it, a last-step measure you should try is restoring your Kindle Fire to its default factory settings. Be aware that this will erase all of the information on your device, and you’ll want to make sure your Kindle Fire is being backed up before you move ahead with a factory reset so you can restore it from that backup. Alternatively, if you’re looking to sell your Kindle Fire, you’ll also want to reset your device to its default factory settings to ensure all of your personal information is erased from the device. Additionally, whether you’re selling your Kindle Fire to someone you don’t know or giving it to a friend or family member, you’ll also want to make sure and deregister your Amazon account from the device as well. I’ll walk through how to deregister your account from your Kindle Fire, and how to restore your Kindle Fire to its default settings in this video. Examples of all instructions in the steps can be seen in the YouTube video below.
Steps to Deregister Kindle Fire
First, if you’re preparing to sell your device or give it to someone else, the first thing you’ll want to do is deregister your Kindle Fire from your Amazon account. Let’s quickly walk through the steps to do that.
- Navigate to your Kindle Fire home screen, and then tap to launch the “Settings” app. The Settings screen is displayed.
- Scroll down this menu, and then tap “My Account.” The My Account screen is shown.
- Find the section at the top of this screen that tells you who this Kindle Fire is registered to, and then tap “Deregister” in that section. A Deregister Your Fire window is shown, letting you know that you won’t be able to access anything that was purchased with the account your deregistering. You won’t be able to access email or the calendar associated with that account. Some data may be removed, and more.
- Tap “Deregister” to move forward with deregistering your Amazon account from this Kindle Fire. Your account will be deregistered.
Steps to Reset Kindle Fire to Default Factory Settings
Now let’s walk through the steps to erase all of the information from your Kindle Fire and restore it to its default factory settings. Again, be aware that this will erase all of the information on your device, and you’ll want to make sure your Kindle Fire is being backed up before you move ahead with a factory reset so you can restore it from that backup.
- Navigate to your Kindle Fire home screen, and then tap to launch the “Settings” app. The Settings screen is displayed.
- Scroll down this menu, and then tap “Device Options.” The Device Options screen is shown.
- Scroll down this menu, and then tap “Reset to Factory Defaults.” A window warning you that resetting your Kindle Fire to its factory default settings will remove all of your personal information, Amazon account information, downloaded content, and applications from internal storage.
- Tap “Reset” in this window. Your tablet will reboot and load up to the first screen in the setup process, where you’re prompted to choose what language you want your Kindle Fire to operate in.
