Introduction
WhatsApp is a popular messaging service that boasts strong privacy features, such as end-to-end encryption. While WhatsApp can be downloaded on all iPhone and iPad devices, and most Android devices, it is not available from Amazon’s app store for its Amazon Fire tablet. However, you can still install the native Android WhatsApp app on your Amazon Fire tablet, but you do have to adjust your tablet’s settings.

Steps to Allow Installation of Unknown Sources on Amazon Fire Tablet
First, you need to turn on the ability for your Amazon Fire tablet to allow the installation of applications from unknown sources by doing the following.
- Tap the “Settings” app on your Amazon Fire home screen. You’ll arrive at the Settings screen.
- Scroll down this screen and then tap “Security and Privacy.” The Security and Privacy screen is displayed.
- Tap to turn on the toggle that appears to the right of “Apps from Unknown Sources” in the Privacy section. A Warning dialog box appears warning you that turning this feature on may put your device at risk. Tap “OK.” Your Amazon Fire tablet can now download apps from unknown sources.
Steps to Install WhatsApp on Amazon Fire Tablet
- Tap to open the “Silk Browser” app on your Amazon Fire tablet home screen. The Silk Browser opens.
- Navigate to the WhatsApp for Android page. You’ll land on a screen asking you to download the latest version of WhatsApp for Android.
- Tap “Download Now.” Tap “Continue” if a dialog box appears asking for access to be able to download files to your device. Additionally, if another dialog box is shown asking for access to photos, media and files on your device, tap “Allow.” A window is displayed asking what you want to do with the link.
- Tap “Download Link.” A window is shown at the bottom of the screen warning you that this type of file could harm your device. Tap “OK.” The WhatsApp APK file will be downloaded.
- Tap “Open” in the window at the bottom of the screen after the WhatsApp APK file is finished downloading. A WhatsApp screen appears.
- Tap “Install” on the screen asking if you want to install WhatsApp on your Android device. A progress bar is shown displaying the status of installing WhatsApp on your Amazon Fire tablet. When the installation is complete, a check mark will be displayed on the screen that says App Installed. Tap “Open” on this screen to launch WhatsApp on your Amazon Fire tablet. You’ll now see a WhatsApp app on your Amazon Fire tablet home screen you can use to launch WhatsApp at any time.
