How to Connect Roku to Bluetooth Speaker

Introduction

The Roku Private Listening feature originally just let you connect a pair of wired headphones to your Roku remote to hear the audio on your Roku device. However, Roku has expanded the Roku Private Listening feature to now be available through the Roku app for iPhone, iPad and Android devices, which lets you listen to the audio from your Roku device on up to four connected Bluetooth devices, such as a Bluetooth speaker. This feature is available on the latest Roku devices, which includes the Roku Streaming Stick and Roku Ultra.

Steps to Connect Roku to Bluetooth Speaker

  1. Make sure your wireless Bluetooth speaker you want to play Roku audio through is connected to your iPhone, iPad or Android device.
  2. Launch the Roku app on your iPhone, iPad or Android device. If you don’t have the Roku app installed on your device, you’ll need to do that and set it up before you can move forward. You’ll land on your Roku home screen.
  3. Tap “Devices” in the menu on the home screen. A list of your connected Roku devices is listed.

  1. Tap the name of the device you want to control with the app and use the Roku private listening feature on in this list. A menu is displayed directly beneath that device.
  2. Tap “Remote” in this menu. The Roku Remote screen is displayed.

  1. Tap the headphones icon.

A wavy line will show up connecting the two ear cups in the image, and after a few seconds you’ll hear your Roku audio played through your connected Bluetooth speaker.

  1. Additionally, you’ll also see a Roku Private Listening icon appear in the upper right corner of your Roku screen immediately after you turn the feature on. Now, any audio coming from your Roku device will be played through your connected Bluetooth speaker. You can turn Roku Private Listening off at any time by tapping the Roku Private Listening icon on the Control screen. This will remove the audio wave between the two headphone cups on the icon, indicating the feature is turned off.

Reasons to Connect Your Roku Device to a Bluetooth Speaker

1. Enhanced Sound Quality

Bluetooth speakers often surpass built-in TV speakers in sound quality. Users can appreciate clearer dialogue, nuanced sound effects, and deeper bass. High-quality sound can intensify the enjoyment of music concerts, movie nights, or binge-watching favorite series. This added level of audio fidelity makes each streaming experience memorable, turning average viewing into something extraordinary.

2. Immersive Surround Sound

Bluetooth speakers supporting stereo or surround sound can provide an immersive audio experience. Sound travels in multiple directions, enveloping listeners and drawing them into the on-screen action. It’s like stepping into a movie scene or being in the audience at a live performance. This feature amplifies every viewing moment, making TV shows and films feel alive and more engaging.

3. Noise Control

Bluetooth speakers enable better noise control. Users can place the speaker closer to their seating area, allowing for lower volume levels without losing clarity. This ability is a boon in shared living spaces or late-night viewing sessions. Everyone can continue with their tasks undisturbed, promoting harmony in the home environment. Bluetooth speakers create a personal sound zone for viewers, enhancing respect for shared spaces.

4. Accessibility

Bluetooth speakers can be a godsend for those with hearing impairment. The enhanced audio clarity makes dialogue and sound effects easier to understand. Some speakers even offer settings for speech enhancement. This improved accessibility aids in comprehension, making content more enjoyable. With Bluetooth speakers, viewing becomes an inclusive activity, considering the needs of all potential viewers.

5. Outdoor Viewing

Bluetooth speakers facilitate temporary outdoor viewing setups. Carrying a speaker outside is easier than relocating a TV or a wired sound system. With their help, impromptu garden movie nights or poolside series marathons are easily achievable. They enable viewers to enjoy their favorite content under the open sky, turning any outdoor space into a personal cinema.

6. Portability

The portability of Bluetooth speakers is an undeniable advantage. Users can easily move their viewing experience to another room or even outside. It’s as simple as picking up the speaker and carrying it to the desired location. This flexibility allows for spontaneous decisions, like deciding to watch a film in bed or a morning news catch-up in the kitchen.

7. Wireless Convenience

The wireless convenience of Bluetooth speakers is a clear benefit. No wires mean less clutter and an easier setup. It keeps the viewing area neat and tidy, adding to the overall enjoyment. It also reduces tripping hazards, contributing to a safer living space. The lack of cables offers a clean, streamlined viewing area, promoting a relaxed viewing environment.

8. Multi-purpose Usage

The versatility of Bluetooth speakers extends beyond TV audio. They can play music from other devices, such as phones or computers. Users can switch from streaming a documentary to playing a playlist within seconds. This adaptability makes the speakers a useful addition to any home. It also offers excellent value for money, as the same device caters to various audio needs.
