Introduction
More and more apps associated with games on Android devices are starting to support the use of connected controllers, such as Fortnite, Call of Duty, GTA and others. If using a third-party controller to play games on your Android device sounds appealing, you may not have to reach too far, as the PlayStation 4 DualShock 4 controller can be connected and used for gaming on your Android device. The only caveat is that the DualShock 4 won’t work with every Android mobile game, and will only work with games that offer controller support. In this article I’ll show you how to connect your PS4 controller to your Android device. Examples of all instructions in the steps can be seen in the YouTube video below.

- Turn on your PlayStation 4 DualShock 4 controller, and then press the “Share” and “PlayStation” buttons at the same time until the lightbar on the front of your controller starts blinking, which indicates the device is in pairing mode.
- Swipe up on your Android device’s home screen to display the Apps screen, and then tap “Settings.”

5 Reasons to Connect PS4 Controller to Android
1. Enhanced Gaming Experience
When you connect a PS4 controller to your Android device, the first thing you’ll notice is the leap in gameplay quality. Touchscreen controls, while convenient, often lack the precision of a physical controller. The PS4 controller offers responsive feedback through its physical buttons and analog sticks. This setup allows for more accurate and controlled movements in games, making complex actions simpler to execute. Especially in genres like racing or shooting, where precision is paramount, the tactile feedback helps players perform better. Plus, the ergonomic design reduces hand strain during long gaming sessions, ensuring comfort that touchscreens simply can’t match. The overall experience feels more like playing on a traditional console, attracting gamers who crave that level of gameplay on mobile devices.
2. Access to a Wider Range of Games
Using a PS4 controller with an Android phone or tablet opens up a new realm of gaming possibilities. Many games on Android are designed with touchscreen interfaces in mind, which can limit gameplay complexity. However, with a controller in hand, you can dive into games that require more intricate controls, similar to those on consoles or PCs. This compatibility significantly broadens your gaming library, including many titles from the Google Play Store that support external gamepads. Moreover, it allows for a better experience with games that originate from other platforms, like those streamed via services such as PS Now or cloud gaming platforms. Gamers can enjoy their favorite console games on the go, without compromising on control quality.
3. Multiplayer Gaming
Bringing a PS4 controller into your Android gaming setup can transform your device into a mini arcade for multiplayer fun. Local multiplayer games that support multiple controllers let friends join in right from their own devices or share the screen of a single device. This setup is perfect for gaming parties or casual get-togethers. Instead of everyone pecking at a cramped touchscreen, players can use their own controllers, making the gameplay more enjoyable and less crowded. The PS4 controller, known for its ease of connectivity and widespread support in multiplayer games, makes it a go-to choice for group gaming sessions. It encourages social interaction and competitive play among friends, making gaming a shared enjoyment.
4. Streaming and Remote Play
For those who own a PlayStation 4, using the controller with an Android device can revolutionize the way you stream and play games remotely. Sony’s PS Remote Play app allows you to mirror your console’s screen to your Android device, enabling you to play your PS4 games anywhere in your home. The PS4 controller provides a seamless experience because it’s natively compatible with the PlayStation ecosystem. This feature is a boon for gamers who might need to share the TV or simply prefer the comfort of playing from different locations. Streaming games with a PS4 controller on an Android device means no compromise in control fidelity, making it as if you were right in front of your console.
5. Customization and Flexibility
The PS4 controller is renowned for its customizable options, which extend wonderfully to Android devices. Many Android games and applications allow you to remap controller buttons to suit your play style, offering a level of customization that touchscreen controls can’t match. This flexibility can greatly enhance the gaming experience by allowing you to tailor the controls to your preferences. Additionally, apps like Octopus even enable you to use the PS4 controller for games that don’t natively support gamepads. The ability to configure your setup means that you can optimize every aspect of your control scheme, improving your efficiency and effectiveness in games. It’s a personal touch that makes a universal controller feel uniquely yours.
