Introduction
Maybe you got a new TV and want to upgrade your Netflix account to take advantage of the better resolution. Maybe your kids are older and you need more devices to be able to access Netflix at the same time. Or, maybe your not using Netflix as much and you want to downgrade your Netflix plan. No matter the reason, changing your Netflix plan is easy, but can only be done through the Netflix website. The only caveat is that if you’ve recently changed the payment method associated with your Netflix account, you won’t be able to change your Netflix plan until the next billing period.

Steps to Change Netflix Plan
- Open a web browser, navigate to www.Netflix.com, and then log in to your Netflix account if you’re not logged in by default.
- Click the drop-down arrow next to your profile icon at the top of the screen to open a drop-down menu, and then click “Account” in that menu. Your Netflix account screen is displayed.
- Navigate down to the Plan Details section, and then click “Change Plan.” The Change Streaming Plan screen is displayed, where you’ll see your current Netflix plan with blue highlight around it and a check mark next to it.
- Click the plan you want to switch to. In this example I’ll switch from the Standard plan to the Premium plan. Your new plan will now be highlighted and have the blue check mark next to it.
- Click “Continue.” A Change Streaming Plan window pops up, where you’ll see short descriptions for your current Netflix plan and your new Netflix plan. You’ll also see a note letting you know that your new plan will start immediately and when you’ll start paying for your new plan.
- Review this information and then click “Confirm Change.” You’ll be routed back to the Account screen, where you’ll see a note that your Netflix plan was successfully changed. You’ll also see your new plan in the Plan Details section.
Reasons You May Want to Change Your Netflix Plan
1. Cost
Changing your Netflix plan because of cost makes perfect sense. If you find yourself not watching as much as you used to, consider downgrading to a lower tier plan. You can save money while still enjoying some of your favorite shows and movies. On the other hand, if you’re watching more content than ever before, upgrading to a higher tier plan may be a smart move. With more screens to watch on and a better quality of service, you’ll get more value for your money.
2. Content Availability
Not finding enough content on your current Netflix plan can be frustrating. Upgrading to a higher tier plan can give you access to more shows and movies, including those that are exclusive to that plan. You’ll never run out of things to watch again!
3. Screen Limitations
If you share your account with family or friends, having a plan with more screens can be beneficial. You’ll all be able to watch what you want, when you want, without having to wait your turn.
4. Quality of Service
If you’re tired of suffering through buffering and low-quality video on Netflix, consider upgrading to a higher tier plan. With a better quality of service, you’ll enjoy a smoother and more enjoyable viewing experience.
5. Family Sharing
If your household consists of multiple people with different viewing habits, changing to a plan that supports more simultaneous users can save you from arguments. Everyone will be able to watch what they want, on their own device, without interruption.
6. Change in Viewing Habits
As your viewing habits change over time, it’s important to reassess your Netflix plan. If you find yourself watching more content or needing more screens, upgrading your plan can be a smart move. On the other hand, if you’re watching less, downgrading your plan can save you money.
7. New Features
Staying up to date with the latest Netflix features is important. If you find yourself missing out on new and improved features, consider upgrading your plan. With a higher tier plan, you’ll have access to all the latest and greatest Netflix has to offer.
